It will be history in the making when the new Whitney Museum, on Gansevoort Street, opens to the public.

It’s the first time that a major museum has been located in downtown Manhattan. The new structure was designed by Renzo Piano. The adjacent terraces are outdoor galleries with breathtaking views over the rooftops of New York and function as urban stages.

Not only can you go up and down the different floors from inside, but you can  also climb the outside stairways for the view outside and to see the fantastic modern sculptures. The different floors are split up into different decades of art styles.

Some of the highlights are works by Peter Saul, George Segal, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Chuck Close and Edward Hopper, just to name a few. It will be a very exciting experience for the entire art community when the Whitney Museum opens to the public on May 1st in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan.
